New technological advancements has come a long way since the early 2000s. Most of us were either in diapers or in our father’s nether regions during that era, but it’s no question that technology as we know it has advanced in ways no one thought imaginable.
On that note, let’s look at some technology trends that will shape the tech world in the next few years.
Blockchain and its implications
Throughout the last decade, usual payment processes online was always done through an intermediate party who verifies the data through a centralised system. This is a huge security concern and we have seen this concern turn into an actual breach time and time again. That’s where the beauty of Blockchain really shines through. Blockchain is a decentralised technology and gives you complete security through data encryption. Data that is decentralised opens up new avenues of transacting and helps facilitate automation.
The rise of IoT
Ah IoT (internet of things). It pretty much runs the world right now with the advent of smart devices in the pockets of 90% of this planet’s inhabitants, it’s no doubt IoT has shaped our present and is going to shape our future too.
IoT technology will collect and implement data collected by industrial machines and will then give us information that will help us improve the processes, become more efficient and productive. The next few years will be used to develop global standards and protocols to communicate more efficiently.
Best of all is that we’re still in its infancy period. By the end of this year, it is said that there will be in excess of 50 million IoT devices in use. That’s a staggering number and opens up so many possibilities. A truly exciting time to be in IT!
Artificial Intelligence
The world has grown accustomed to hearing these words a lot in the last year. Why? Because it really is taking over. Almost every human activity can be replicated and done through AI at this point. From tools such as Chat GPT that is making huge strides in generating content, to more advanced AI solutions that can create human-like videos with unique sounding voices and now, as of April 2023, the company Empire AI is working on a solution that can code anything with just a prompt. Can you imagine that? All you would need to do is to type out what software you want, how you want it and it will code and create literally everything for you.
The increasing prevalence of Quantum Computing
It is a form of computing that takes advantage of quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement. Its applications range from preventing the spread of diseases such as the coronavirus to developing new vaccines and managing risk and fraud in the financial sector.
The significant differentiating factor of this trend is that quantum computers are much faster than regular computers, which is why large companies such as Microsoft, AWS, and Google are putting a lot of effort into innovation in this field. In fact, their global market revenues are expected to exceed $2.5 billion in 2029.
This blog doesn’t really require a conclusion, but I’d like to leave you with one thought. It has been argued that AI and such advancements could be detrimental to humans and their job security. What do you think of this? Is technology really getting too smart for our own good? Perhaps I’ll discuss it in the next blog, so stay tuned!
